Make a Bed for Mr Bear!

Year 2 felt very sad for Mr Bear as he had nowhere to sleep! So we decided that we would make a bed (or many) for him to sleep in. We researched different types of beds and discussed what beds we had in our bedrooms at home. We thought about what shapes would be the best and the sturdiest for the legs of our beds. We decided on cylinder ones and began practising rolling paper to create the cylinder shape. We worked together initially to complete this as we found it easier for one person to roll and hold and the other to cellotape. We came to the conclusion that card was stronger than paper so we used paper for our final product. We came up with our design for our bed and designed our duvet cover and pillow.

We thought about how to attach the legs to the bed frame and decided that we would cut them seveal times at one end, fold them outwards and attach them to the base by cellotaping or gluing them. We found gluing them took a while to dry and that cellotaping them worked but we need to make sure not to add too much cellotape. We cut our legs smaller so that our bed was sturdier. We then created our duvet cover and pillow using felt and different coloured cloth material. We tested to see if Mr Bear would fit and whether he was stable lying in his bed so he did not fall out!
