All Aboard The Liverpool Express!
During this half term (Autumn 1), Year 2 have been focussing on Southport and Liverpool in Geography. We have compared the town and city by looking at the landmarks within each. Most of the children recognised the landmarks in Southport and some had been to some of the ones we discussed. We planned our route to Liverpool for our trip and thought about what landmarks we would see on the way, both human and phsycial. We looked at compass points and remembered Never Eat Soggy Waffles! We used Digimaps to view a map of Southport and Liverpool and discussed what some of the keys on the map meant.
Our trip to Liverpool on 15th October reflected our Geography unit. The children were very excited to go and had a fantastic time there. We followed the route in the car/mini bus that we had planned. Upon arriving at Liverpool docks, we hopped on board an open top bus where we travelled around the city for an hour with a very knowledgable tour guide showing us some of the landmarks. Some of the children recognised the landmarks which we had discussed in our Geography lessons! We then walked through Liverpool docks which the children thought was very exciting! Then we headed to the Museum of Liverpool, saying hello to some of the Lambanana's on the way! In the museum we explored some of the old transport and viewed Liverpool from high up. We had some lunch and then attended a workshop in the museum called 'Little Liverpool'. The children split into two groups and completed both activities: following and a-z of different places or information about Liverpool and exploring the water play with the underground/overground transport and the ocean looking at fish and their environment. They loved the session and we finished it off with a dance with musical instruments to a Beatles hit! We then headed back to the car/minibus and enjoyed a snack by the River Mersey before we headed back to school.
We had a great day and the children made us very proud!
