Our JOY Team

What do we do?

At St. John's C.E. Primary School we take the views of our pupils very seriously and they have a huge role in the day to day running of the school. Each year we nominate two or more representatives from each year group, from Year 3 to Year 6, to share the views and ideas of our classes to help improve our school and local community. Pupils have to apply for this prestigious role and we are always excited when it comes to deciding our new team!

This year, our JOY Team are...

Year 3: Esme and Isaac

Year 4: Roisin and Sammy

Year 5: Mathew and Millie-May

Year 6: Belle, Calisi, Leif and Megan

Being on the JOY Team gives us the opportunity to discuss and make decisions about issues that affect us, our class and our school, so we all have a part in making our school and community a better place. The children are supported by Mrs Healy with their projects. We work closely with other Sefton schools to organise events to raise awareness and money to support local and larger charities. At all times, we keep J.O.Y at the heart of all we do! Some of our highlights from this year include....

Design an Easter Egg Competition

The JOY team as part of RotaKids are raisng money for 'Literacy in a Box'. This is a charity which provides a box full of educational resources to schools in Africa, with boxes costing £395 each. To aid in this fundraising, our JOY team organised a competition to design an Easter Egg. Entry was £1 and there was a large Easter Egg prize for each class winner donated from Diane at Southport Rotary Club. We raised over £80 in just this competition!

Here are our winners....

Chocolate!

Our JOY team have been busy at school organising a special collection of chocolate bars to spread some cheer at Christmas. They wrote a letter to all pupils asking them to each to bring in a bar of chocolate and the response was overwhelming! Together we have managed to fill baskets and baskets full of chocolate bars, ready to be distributed by The Rotary Club to families in need at Christmas. On Sunday 3rd December the JOY team presented these donations along with toys at a special family  service, led by Mrs Corbett and Reverend Rebecca.  The children were excellent ambassadors for our school!

Children in Need

Every year, the JOY Team plan to raise awareness and money for Children in Need. This year we held a MUFTI day at school and asked for donations for Children in Need. The JOY Team decorated biscuits and sold them during school and after school to raise money too. We also had a very special visit from Pudsey! In classes, we talked about what Children in Need is and how money raised helps children and families across our country. We raised over £250!

Rescue Me

As part of our local support with Rota Kids, we decided we wanted to support an animal sanctuary as it is something we hadn't done before. We reached out to Liz at Rescue Me animal sanctuary in Bickerstaffe near Ormskirk and she was delighted that we wanted to help her. She explained the ways that we could help and we decidded that we wanted to collect used stamps which she would then send off and receive money towards their animal sanctuary. There are other ways we can support Rescue Me which we would like to do in the future. If you have any used stamps, please bring them into school and post them in our postbox in our foyer.

Rota Kids

Our school JOY Team has registered with Rota Kids. Rota Kids provides young people aged 12 and under with the opportunities to participate enthusiastically in active citizenship to improve the quality of life for their school, local and global communities. The children were given certain responsibilities whilst being part of the Rota Kids. They have to plan and carry out local and international activities to support charities. The children took their pledges to become officially part of the Rota Kids and they have already started planning and carrying out some of their work.  Diane Harrison from Rota Kids came into school to deliver an assembly to explain to all of the other children in school what Rota Kids is and for the Rota Kids members to officially carry out their pledge.
