Safeguarding

St. John’s Church of England Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all members of the school community to share this commitment.

The safety and wellbeing of all children and young people is of paramount importance. We recognise that parents and carers send their children to school each day with the expectation that the school provides a safe and secure environment in which their children can flourish. We therefore have a wide range of measures in place to ensure this is put into practice and is maintained. These measures include (but are not limited to) ensuring that children are kept safe from; online abuse, child to child abuse, bullying and concerns/ incidents that occur outside school.

Child Protection at St. John’s Church of England

Primary School.

Our school staff are trained to be alert to signs of abuse and neglect and will follow the Sefton Safeguarding Children’s Partnership policies and procedures to ensure that children receive appropriate and effective support and protection.

The school also has a statutory responsibility to share any concerns it might have with other agencies and in particular police, health and children’s services about a child in need of protection.  Schools are not able to investigate child protection concerns but have a legal duty to refer them. In most instances the school will be able to inform the parents/carer of its need to make a referral. However, sometimes the school is advised by children’s services or police that the parent/carer cannot be informed whilst they investigate the matter. We understand the anxiety parents/carers understandably feel when they are not told about any concerns from the outset. The school follows legislation that aims to act in the interests of the child. The school will always seek to work with in partnership with parents and other agencies to ensure the best possible outcomes for the child and family.
