The Great Christmas Bake Off

Date: 6th Dec 2018 @ 8:02pm

What a fantastic way to end our Victorians topic!

The children in Year 5 have been working extremely hard over the past few weeks studying Dr Barnardo and Barnardo's charity. Not only have they researched about Barnardo's and its history, they also organised their own fundraising event!

Today we enjoyed our 'Great Christmas Bake Off' where each child brought in a homemade baked good for the competition. The variety of tasty treats was far too much for Mr Thomson, who could barely stand by the end of the day from eating so much! Our wonderful judges found it incredibly difficult to choose a winner but eventually Morgan, Rosie and Leah were chosen for their creativity, effort and appearance.

In the afternoon, parents, grandparents and carers of Year 5 pupils visited us in church to sample the cakes etc. with a cup or two of tea and coffee. A huge thank you to everyone at St John's church for supplying the refreshements and making the church look absolutely beautiful! Despite the rainy weather, we all had a super day with memories will last a liftime (and no need for any food for the next week!).  I'm so proud of all the children in Year 5 for their efforts this term - a big well done to you all!

In addition to our 'GCBO', some children also prepared an assembly for the other classes to raise awareness of vulnerable children and organise a raffle for a Barnardo's teddy bear. The winner will be randomly selected in celebration assembly on Friday 7th December!

The grand total of our fundrasing will be revealed on tomorrow's newsletter but I would like to say a massive thank you to all the generous donations we have recieved!
