St. John's CE School Football Teams 2017/18

Here you can find information about our football teams and how they are performing this year!  We are part of the Southport League and play a number of fixtures throughout the year in addition to regular tournaments hosted by the likes of Everton and Liverpool up at Stanley High School!

For the first time this year, we are part of a Girl's football league and we are looking forward to reporting on their successes too!

Wednesday 27th September - LFC 7-a-side tournament at Stanley

Our first team outing with a large number of new faces to the team saw an evening full of promise.  A narrow defeat against Linaker (0-1) was followed by a larger defeat against Farnborough (0-3). Then it was onto the matches against schools our size and we showed our resilience in bouncing back to an impressive 0-0 draw with Ainsdale St. John's, followed by a narrow 2-1 defeat to St. Jerome's.  Player of the tournament was Finn-Lee.

Thursday 28th September - League match against St. Philip's

Back to earth with a bang in the wind and rain at Stanley.  The damage was done in the first third with St. Philip's building a commanding lead despite the goal of the game from Oliver!  We battled hard through the rest of the match but could not claw anything back and eventually lost 6-1.  Player of the match was Oliver.

Wednesday 4th October - League match against Ainsdale St. John's

0-0 in the tournament last week and a further 45 minutes could not provide a winner (or even a goal) in the battle of the two St. Johns'!  In a game of little goal-mouth action, both sides had chances in the last minute but neither side converting their chance was probably a fair result!  Player of the match was Luca.

Thursday 5th October - Girl's tournament at Stanley High

The first tournament of the year for the girls and the first matches for many of the team!  Matches against St. Patrick's, OLOC and Farnborough resulted in three 0-0 draws but plenty of excitement, especially in the last games where both Lily and Lottie hit the woodwork!  An unbeaten start to the season - player of the tournament was Sienna.

Thursday 12th October - Y6 EFC tournament at Stanley High

A difficult evening in the mud at Stanley which certainly affected our disctinctive St. John's passing style! 3 games, 3 defeats tonight but some positives to take out of the performances! We were also affected by an unhealthy dose of bad luck with penalties against us and deflected goals to name a couple of mishaps!  Definitely a tournament to put behind us and look forward to the next match!  Player of the tournament was the ever dependable Owen in defence.

Tuesday 17th October - Y5 EFC tournament at Stanley High

A change of manager for this tournament with Mr Deacon stepping into the hotseat alongside a number of debutants from Year 4.  HUGE DELIGHT in our first game where we registered OUR FIRST WIN of the season beating St. Patrick's 1-0 courtesy of a strike from Jack. two 1-0 defeats followed against St. Jerome's and OLOL but we had chances aplenty!  From the debutants, Rylee was assured around the park, Jack finished superbly but the player of the tournament was Joel who showed solidity and maturity at the back. Well done boys!

Wednesday 18th October - Girls League Matches against OLOL

Due to fixture congestion for many schools, the girls league sees teams playing their home and away fixtures on the same evening - 20 minutes for each game.  These were our first ever matches in the girl's league and I am delighted to say we came away with honours even, with one match won each. 2 WINS IN 2 DAYS!  OLOL had the better of the first game winning 2-0 but we showed great resilience to bounce back in the second game with an emphatic 1-0 victory for St. John's. A huge well done to Grace for scoring our goal but player of the matches was Krystal who was absolutely superb.  Roll on our next fixtures!
