Eco Team

Each year we nominate two children from Year 2 to Year 6, to be our school representatives on all environmental issues, both as regards the immediate school areas and the surrounding community. Being on the Eco Committee gives us the opportunity to discuss and make decisions about issues that affect us, which can then be communicated down to the rest of the school. In doing this, we raise the children’s awareness of recycling, energy consumption and reduction, and the wider implications for the local area and the planet as a whole.

In recent years, we have introduced recycling bins into our classrooms and communal areas, produced and displayed energy-saving posters for all areas of the school, purchased new bins for the playground and built a compost bin, into which we can now put any waste fruit and vegetables from playtime. We are part of the Sefton School's Green Star League, which recognises schools' hard work with regard to environmental issues, provides information about the energy performance of schools and we have regular contact with Southport Eco Centre.

In 2018, we were lucky enough to work with the charity Trees For Learning, who supported us with the planting of fruit trees and shrubs in areas of our school field. This was a wonderful activity for the Eco Committee and school as a whole to take part and, will, undoubtedly help to improve not only the aesthetics of our school environment, but also help to combat global warming.
